It's going to be a quiet Christmas without you.

I can hardly believe it's nearly Christmas. It's going to be a quiet one this year.  My husband has been in hospital for three weeks; my fault he caught a cold from me. Long story short he has emphysema, and even a common cold can be life threatening.  It's not all bad news, though, the doctors may allow him home next week, but alas not in time to eat Christmas dinner at home with our Jack Russell terrier, and me. As I type Sam is curled up in the basket under the desk, but the moment I get up my little shadow will be at my heels,  albeit a temporary fascination. As soon as his master's home I'll be back at  number two in the pecking order.

Currently, I'm writing a book The Little Dog Laughed. It's  a rather dark comedy and the main character is based on Sam, but Spud is much more of a rogue than my little dog. I hope it will be with my publisher by the end of the next year but I wouldn't hold my breath. The truth is that instead of concentrating on my next work, I decided to make revisions to Salvation Jane.

Proof reading must be one of the most difficult tasks in publishing. You see, it is a proof reader's responsibility to ensure there isn't a single mistake in a book. My son pointed  out several errors in Salvation Jane that  the proof reader (me),  missed. Correcting them was a bigger undertaking than one would presume, probably because I decided to make some changes to the text. Once I got started I couldn't  seem to stop. I confess of all the tasks involved in writing a book, the editing process is my favourite, and I never know when enough is enough.

Finally, the revised editions of the paperback and e-book are now available and in time for Christmas.   Phew! My very best wishes to my readers and friends. I wish you all a joyful Christmas and a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year.

Ann Massey

Ps I have proof-read this blog carefully, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's an error or three.
